Bicalutamide 0.2% Topical Scalp Serum (Alcohol Free)
The active ingredient in this formulation is Bicalutamide. Bicalutamide is prescribed for women’s hair loss by blocking the effects of the male hormone (androgen) and is said to be a pure non steroidal androgen receptor blocker. It is closely related to another antiandrogen called flutamide. We don’t use flutamide much any more. Women with genetic hair loss and frontal fibrosing alopecia may benefit from bicalutamide.

Formula Information

Bicalutamide blocks the effects of the male hormone (androgen) and is said to be a pure non steroidal androgen receptor blocker. Women with genetic hair loss and frontal fibrosing alopecia may benefit from bicalutamide. Bicalutamide only works while it’s taken. It must be taken on-going to maintain the benefits. If women with genetic hair loss decide to stop Bicalutamide, the benefits are lost in 6 months and hair density goes back to the way it was before starting the drug. For women with genetic hair loss, Bicalutamide only works while it’s taken. It must be taken forever to maintain the benefits. If women with genetic hair loss decide to stop Bicalutamide, the benefits are lost in 6 months and hair density goes back to the way it was before starting the drug. For women with frontal fibrosing alopecia, Bicalutamide helps calm down or ‘inactive’ the disease. Unlike genetic hair loss, it may be possible for some women with frontal fibrosing alopecia to stop their Bicalutamide at some point and not lose further hair. This is assuming they do not have any androgenetic alopecia. If they do have androgenetic alopecia, the drug might need to be used on-going.
When used as directed, this formulation is safe and effective. It is important for patients to adhere to our prescribers instructions for use and not to exceed the recommended dosage or frequency of application.

• Temporary hair loss may occur during the first 2 – 6 weeks of use. This is likely to be because of a change within the growth cycle and it should stop within a couple of weeks. If this hair loss continues for longer than 2 weeks, stop using the product and talk to your prescribing pharmacist.

How To Use
This formulation can be used by both men and women. Avoid if pregnant or breast feeding. If you are on any medication, please check with our clinical prescriber before using this formulation.
Always perform a patch test before applying to the whole scalp. Apply a small amount of the scalp serum on your scalp and leave on for a few hours. Monitor and observe to check for any irritation, redness, itching or blistering. If there is of these reactions please contact us immediately. If no reactions have been observed then proceed to apply the scalp serum to the areas of treatment. On the first application only use half the dosage amount and leave overnight. If you haven't had any reactions then continue your treatment at full optimal dosing as instructed.
The merit of Bicalutamide is that it has a 7 day half life, so it builds up in serum and tissue with repeated administration. This is why you should not apply Bicalutamide daily, but ja maiximum of three times a week.
To apply a solution medication, we recommend the following steps:
1. Part your hair down the middle of your head. Then, use a dropper to apply the medication along the part, from the front of your scalp to the back. Make sure you continuously, but gently squeeze out small amounts of the medication as you work your way along the part with the dropper.
2. Part your hair a second and third time to the right and left of your middle part, about 2 inches down. Continuously apply the medication along each part from the front of your scalp to the back.
3. Part your hair a fourth and fifth time just above your right and left ears. Continuously apply the medication along each part from the front of your scalp to the back.
