What is hair loss in women?

We all shed hair daily, usually between 50 to 120 hairs every single day. This is part of a natural balance, some hairs fall out while new hairs grow in. It's when this balance is interrupted where more hair falls out compared to the number of hairs that grow in; this is when hair loss happens. Hair shedding and hair loss are very different. Hair loss medically is known as 'alopecia'.
